Description: The Medical Assistant will support the daily operations of the gastroenterology office by providing clinical and administrative assistance to physicians, clinicians, and patients. This role is essential in ensuring smooth patient flow, accurate electronic record-keeping, and optimal patient care.

Essential Duties:
• Schedule new and follow-up appointments• Handle incoming calls (appointments, questions, refills, messages)
• Triage calls and route messages to clinical staff/providers
• Confirm appointments and send reminders
• Obtain prior authorizations for visits, procedures, imaging, or labs
• Explain basic insurance coverage to patients
• Scan and upload documents into the chart
• Request outside records and track receipt
• Ensure charts are prepped and complete before visits
• Maintain HIPAA compliance at all times
• Communicate with front/back office about patient arrivals and delays
• Help keep the schedule running on time
• Support providers and clinical staff with administrative needs
• Handle referrals and follow-ups as assigned
• Faxing, scanning, copying, and emailing records
• Manage work queues or task lists in the EMR
• Track no-shows, reschedules, and cancellations
• Assist with daily reports or end-of-day closeout
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Strong customer service and communication skills
Organized and detail-oriented
Comfortable with EMR systems
Able to multitask under pressure
Must maintain a friendly, calm, and professional demeanor at all times

Physical Demands:
The employee is frequently required to walk; sit; use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display terminal. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and climb stairs. The employee should be able to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, lift and move up to 25 lbs. The work environment is typically quiet to moderate with standard office and procedure room noise levels. The Medical Assistant must be able to observe safe practice criteria in assisting patients.
