SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

The Human Resources (HR) Intern will support the HR Department by assisting with meaningful projects and administrative functions that contribute to the organization's overall success. This internship is designed for a college freshman or recent high school graduate preparing to attend a post-secondary educational institution and seeking exposure to human resources and business operations.

The selected candidate will gain hands-on experience in HR practices, organizational structure, employee support functions, and business operations. This role provides an opportunity to develop professional skills, contribute ideas, and gain valuable insight into the HR profession. This is a summer internship that will conclude at the end of the season. The HR Intern will work 24 hours per week (3 days per week) on-site at Phoenix’s Largo, MD office, and report to the HR Manager.

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt (hourly)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists with HR projects and initiatives that support departmental and organizational goals.
  • Provides administrative support to the HR team.
  • Helps organize, maintain, and update employee records and HR documentation.
  • Assists with onboarding activities and new hire preparation.
  • Supports employee engagement and workforce development initiatives.
  • Participates in meetings, training sessions, and departmental projects.
  • Conducts research and gathers information to support HR programs and process improvements.
  • Assists with data entry, filing, document management, and general office tasks.
  • Maintains confidentiality of employee and organizational information.
  • Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education

  • High school diploma.
  • Preference given to recent high school graduates who are enrolled in or planning to attend a college, university, or other post-secondary educational institution.
  • Interest in HR, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, Communications, or a related field preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Dependable, reliable, and punctual.
  • Demonstrated initiative and willingness to learn.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional environment.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professionalism.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in a standard office environment.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and use a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry office materials up to 20 pounds.
